May 19: Tools to start an ethical effective coaching relationship with clients in academia
June 16: Supporting university populations by cultivating safety and trust
July 21: Setting an agenda for a successful coaching engagement : maintaining presence with clients in academia
August 18: Leading with curiosity and listening actively as a coach in a Higher Ed environment
September 15: Developing clarity by evoking new perceptions of thoughts, behaviors, and action in academia
October 20: Supporting goal-directed forward movement in Higher Ed coaching practice

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:
Rebekah Layton, PhD, CMC, PCC, is the Director of Professional Development Programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Rebekah provides individual career coaching and leadership mentoring for trainees, and is a Certified Mentor Coach (CMC) and Professional Certified Coach (PCC). She is a published author on professional development and career outcomes, a contributor to Inside HigherEd Carpe Careers, and a member of the Graduate Career Consortium where she currently serves as the Southeast Regional Director. Rebekah designs, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive professional and career development program housed in the Office of Graduate Education supporting biomedical graduate students and postdoctoral trainees. Her expertise in personality and social psychology includes the study of self-regulation and goal-setting. Rebekah firmly believes that exciting career options await each trainee, and she helps individuals to identify and capitalize on their strengths to prepare for the next steps that are right for them to launch them toward career success.
Maryam Mohaghegh, MSc, is the Founder of Coaches in Academia, an online community of coaches in Higher Education. Maryam is a Lecturer of Persian Language and Culture at North Carolina State University where she serves as the ICF Academic Liaison, a member of the Board for Student Success and Program Coordinator for Asian Language Concentration. Maryam developed expertise as a scientist in molecular biology and virology, before turning her energies toward languages and teaching. Most recently, she has blended her passion for helping students learn and grow through teaching in the academy, with her passion for serving the whole person through coaching. She is a trained graduate of the Business Coach Institute in Raleigh and now brings her coaching skills to support students and faculty. Maryam believes coaching as a required element of higher education as they attempt to define and design their future path and work to bring it forward.
Peter Vincent, MS, is a Leadership Coach and Human Resources Consultant based in Winston Salem, N.C. and New York City. After a lengthy career in Human Resources, having held senior HR positions at Sony, Time Inc/Time Warner and the National Audubon Society, Peter trained as a coach at Georgetown University, an ICF recognized program. He has extensive experience coaching leaders in the for profit, non-profit, religious and academic environments, and brings expertise, humor, and focus to his work. Peter is an internationalist, having lived in, worked and traveled to 30+ countries, can communicate (sometimes well, occasionally poorly) in 5 languages, and of late, has particularly enjoyed bringing the value of coaching to graduate and international students.
Shirley Rijkse, MBA, SHRM-SCP, DTM is the Human Resources Lead Instructor for the Business Technologies Department at Central Carolina Community College. Advising for academic studies in Business and HR, using a coaching style. She is also the advisor for HR Student Chapter and Toastmasters, and one of the advisors to Phi Beta Lambda student organization. Shirley serves on the North Carolina SHRM State Council as the 2022-23 State President; and serves on various workforce committees and community resource organization boards. Shirley is trained with Choose to Win Coaching from Ziglar. She holds many certifications to enhance her proficiencies. Her many years of leadership and training were developed through experiences in human resources, business management & ownership, senior retirement/assisted living administration, vocational rehabilitation, medical/dental office management, and cosmetology. Shirley brings an enthusiastic passion for education and helping others create their own success stories through personal empowerment coaching.
Irina Filonova, PhD, is the founder of "the phd whisperer", evidence-based coaching and training company for PhDs within and outside academia. As a coach, Irina helps PhDs to create professional lives and realize their leadership potential in alignment with individuals' values, skills, and interests. Her daily interactions are never boring as she gets to work with an incredibly diverse international population and faces the peculiar challenges of cross-cultural communication.Previously, Irina worked as an academic developer at Faculty Affairs Office, OIST, Japan after completing a 3-year postdoc at UT Southwestern, Dallas, Texas. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Neuroscience) and is currently obtaining the ICF PCC certification.
Denise Stewart, Esq., ACC, Realtor® is the Founder of Denise Stewart Coaching, LLC. She focuses her coaching practice on supporting people intransitions, most notably in the areas of career, relationships, and significant life changes. Denise obtained her initial certification as a Certified Professional Coach through iPEC and has completed additional coaching programs to become a Certified Happiness Coach and a CliftonStrengths Coach. She is currently obtaining an Executive Coach Certification. Denise is active in her community, serving as the Special Events Chair on the ICF-Raleigh Chapter board since January 2022 and as an active member of The Junior League of Raleigh since moving to the area in 2011. Prior to becoming a coach, Denise taught law students and lawyers how to effectively use a legal research platform over the course of 19 years in Texas, D.C., Virginia, and North Carolina.
